The Table View is useful for showing the raw data in a compact way, for seeing the data contained in a Visualization, and when a more detailed and precise data comparison is required.
To add a table view to your Visualization, navigate to the "Views" tab in your Visualization settings and click the Table thumbnail.
The configuration window will appear with the settings on the left and a preview on the right. The preview will automatically update as you make edits.
There are two tabs in the settings on the left: "Controls" and "Descriptions".
The "Controls" tab lets you configure how your data will appear in your Visualization. This tab includes the following options:
- Default Sort By Column
- Default Sort Order
- Exclude the Following Columns
- Specify Table Column Widths
In the "Default Sort By Column" drop-down, you can select the Field to sort the Table View on by default. The default sort order (ascending/descending) can be set in the options below. The user will be able to sort on other Fields if they click on the header labels in the table, and they can change the sort order by clicking the label a second time.
The multi-select drop-down menu under "Exclude the Following Columns" lets you omit specific columns from the Table View.
"Specify Table Column Widths" lets you set specific sizes for the columns. By default they are all shown uniformly.
The "Descriptions" tab finally lets you add a description and meta-description to your View. The description will appear at the top of the View and is a good way of orienting users to what they can hope to take away from the View. The meta-description lets you add a write-up of the key takeaways from your chart for screen readers.
